Towards the categorization of conceptual theories
Nous décrivons quatre théories conceptuelles dans le cadre desquelles les psychologues situent leurs problématiques. On pourra remarquer que l'importance accordée aux calculs de la similitude et à la manière de les envisager constituent des étapes centrales des trois premières théories de la catégorisation présentées. Les théories de la catégorisation basées sur les connaissances sont plus sensibles, quant à elles, aux relations existant entre les propriétés catégorielles qu'à leur recouvrement.
Four conceptual theories are described, which differ in the content they ascribe to the cognitive unit present in the long-term memory. Three major criterion were the basis to compare them: coherence, cognitives economies, wealth of the information supplied by the category. The estimation of the degree of similarity between the target and the stored items is a central point for three theories out of four. The causal relations between properties are more important for knowledge-based theories.
